Palomar Medical Technologies Inc. filed a patent infringement lawsuit against rival Candela last week in U.S. District Court in Boston. The next day, Candela countered in the same court with its own patent suit against Palomar.

A federal grand jury has indicted an Albuquerque doctor alleged to have injected skin patients with a dangerous toxin not approved for use in humans.  Dr. Mark Van Wormer used the cheaper toxin on dozens of patients who thought they were paying for a wrinkle treatment sold under the trade name Botox, according to the 14-count indictment.

A Canadian doctor based in Arizona was sentenced to nearly two years in prison Thursday for selling a dangerous bootleg form of Botox to hundreds of physicians. Dr. Zahra Karim, 34, was originally sentenced to almost six years in prison, but she will be transferred to Canada after serving about 21 months and then released, according to her plea deal.
